What a day! It started at 3am when I woke up worrying about my Dad who was taken to hospital yesterday for a brain scan. We know he's had some sort of a stroke because he's suddenly very confused e.g. didn't take the turn-offs when driving, couldn't find the light switch in his bathroom, and couldn't find the couch when he was already in the lounge room!! So when I woke up at 3am I was thinking "What if he goes to the toilet in the ward and can't find his way back to the bed...?"So, I'm lacking sleep.
Then, I weighed myself and found I had lost 2kg! Not only have I gained my 25kg star, but I've lost 26kg altogether. That felt amazing. So, now I'm heading for the 31.5kg total loss, because then I will be half way. I'm doing my best to say that positively, but I really wish I was much closer to goal. Oh well, it will eventually happen.
When Mum got to the hospital at 10am she was told that the Drs wanted a meeting at 3pm. She got all worried and upset, expecting dreadful news. My lovely daughter finished her huge Uni assignment in record time, and raced up to be with her Nana. I'm so glad she was there when I can't be. The news was not so bad though. He's had a series of small strokes, but is in "good condition for someone who has been through these strokes" and should make a pretty good recovery (as he did 4 years ago when he had the first one). He's 81 and very active. He's very worried that he won't be able to drive again - he will feel less of a man if he can't drive. He and Mum are always travelling all over NZ in their enormous camper van - it's so big you have to have a truck license!
I've been meeting parents and students for my new class today, trying to keep my mind on the job rather than events surrounding Dad.
After work we went to a bar where I indulged in one glass of wine and a couple of diet cokes. If I hadn't been the designated driver I would have been very keen for a second wine today!!
Tomorrow, we have to be at school from 8am-1pm for the Open House. Most of the families will be on site to meet new teachers, buy uniforms etc. There are 3800+ students at our school, aged 3-18 years. Imagine how many families will be there... and how many will have trouble finding a car park!!
I'm off for a full night's sleep now!

Hope your Dad has a speedy recovery. You are doing great on the weight loss front - keep it up!

Hi Deb, I hope your Dad is back on deck again soon and that he can keep driving! Well done on the weight loss as always you are kicking this thing in the butt!!
ReplyDeleteDeb, I am please your Dad is doing well. Its great to have such wonderful caring daughters who can step in when you cannot be there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on an amazing loss and ever so close of the halfway mark.
Hi Deb,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to thank you for the lovely, lovely comment you left on my last post. I'm pleased to report that my new jeans fit me nicely for our engagement party (which was a week ago today - I can't believe it's been and gone), and should fit me for a while yet... I bought them quite firm and they have belt loops so hoping they can tide me over for a few months yet.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad but I'm glad your daughter could be such a wonderful support to your parents, and I was relieved to hear that he should make a good recovery... He'll be driving that campervan like a pro in no time!
Finally, congratulations on your AWESOME, awesome loss, it's so wonderful! Only 5.5kg till you're halfway...you've totally got this in the bag! I had a 0.2kg gain this week, which wasn't unexpected... am now 0.4kg away from 20kg lost! So I'm hoping to smash through that barrier this week... Wish me luck!
All the best!!
