Dizzy... any advice?

Yesterday I did the C25K program, Week 5, Day 2 on the crosstrainer for 30 mins, then went hard out on the bike for 30 mins. I enjoyed it at the time, but when I was done I was very dizzy. I think the blood sugars dipped. I wobbled back upstairs to our apartment, sat down in a heap, and asked my husband to grab me something sweetish. He thrust a bag of prunes at me so I ate 4 and rested for a while. Seemed to do the trick (and the prunes may be helpful in more ways than one I guess!!)
Does this ever happen to you when you exercise? I thought today I would try drinking Gatorade as I work out, instead of water. If that doesn't work , maybe I should cut 10 mins off the biking time, or reduce the intensity level?? What do you think?
Enjoy your Sunday. I sure will because I finished writing my reports at midnight last night. YAY! (I sure do know how to rock those Saturday evenings...)

  1. Hey Deb,

I'm no expert on the subject at hand but I think the Gatorade is probably a good option in the first instance - will replenish all the lost electrolytes and all the "good stuff" you've sweated out!

Do you eat before you exercise..? I don't mean like 5 minutes before, but more like an hour or so before? Maybe some carbs or a banana (if you can stomach it!) before exercising might help with regulating the blood sugars!

Good on you for going so hard, though!

    Cheers

  2. Hey Deb!

It sounds like the electrolite levels need a little help so Gatorade would be great. or have some apple juice straight afterwards. I would try these before reducing your time or intensity levels nad see if it helps!

  3. Deb, I would suggest a chunk of melon or a banana or an apple or some dried fruit about 30 mins before you exercise. And I am no fan of Gatorade, but fluid BEFORE you exercise?

  4. I've heard from lots of gym-types and trainers that, unless you're performing at elite athlete levels, Gatorade and that kind of stuff is pretty much useless, and to just stick to water.

That being said, I swear by having a banana before working out EVERY time.
