I was thinking of all the Down-Under exercisers today who are bravely getting out in the winter chill. My husband and I went for a walk for more than an hour this morning. It was hot, bright, hot, sunny, hot and so sweaty!! Oh did I mention that it was hot? It was 35 degrees.
Now, I hate being cold in winter, but I also hate the degree to which I sweat in this humidity. It was really hard to peel off my clothes when I got home because they were completely soaked. I wanted to put my swimsuit on to go for a swim, but couldn't it on my sticky skin!! So, I grabbed an old, big swimsuit and threw it on, then plopped into the pool. Ahhhh the relief!!!  Except... the swimsuit was so baggy that my boobs were floating out of it. Not a good look, but it made me laugh.
I tried jogging for a while. I learned that while I can 'jog' for 25 mins on the crosstrainer, I can't jog for long on the pavement. It's a whole different kind of exercise. However, today's long walk demonstrated very clearly that I am so much fitter these days (it would be hard to have been less fit back in January -  I was a couch slob!!)
  • I enjoyed the whole walk and wasn't wishing we would turn around and go home
  • I didn't stop or puff on the stairs in the path at the end of the walk. I used to have 2 or 3 stops on those steps
  • I jogged for a while and didn't collapse
  • Ian didn't stop to wait for me - I was with him, and sometimes ahead of him
  • I had energy left to do some laps in the pool
I'm saving my own life.

  2. Deb, I totally agree that this new found confidence and belief in ourselves that we can succeed is such a great gift that we can give to ourselves!!

I tried on a knit dress today sz 14 and was very flattering. It didn't show any of the lumps and bumps. I did not buy it but since getting home I keep thinking about it. I will go back tomorrow and buy it if its still there. My new boots will go nicely with it!!

  3. Good on you Deb!

Saving your own life? Definitely!! And when you get to goal, you'll know that YOU were the one that put in all the hard yards and made it happen!

By then, you'll have all the tools you'll need to progress to maintenance and stay at goal weight!

I want your weather - I HATE the cold and wet!

  4. well done on feeling fit and fabulous! And looking fabulous. Your latest pic really shows the changes in your face and neck!
Wolf whistle at you Deb!! (O)
    :)

I remember going for walks in Bali and sweating so much...it wasn't nice! But when I returned to WI I had lost over 2kg, despite the beer and nasi goreng...so sweat is good! I would prefer that then the chill! Too hard to breathe with this weather!
